Billy Nolen, the current head of the Federal Aviation Administration took over as interim director of the agency on April 1, according to a statement released by the Biden administration on March 26, 2022.

According to the statement, Nolen, who has been the FAA’s assistant administrator for aviation safety since January, was formerly vice president of safety, security, and quality for WestJet Airlines in Canada.

The Aviation Safety Organization employs 7,400 people in Washington, D.C., regional and directorate offices worldwide, and 125 field offices to carry out its missions.

The AVS is responsible for the safety of over one million registered aircraft, a thousand certified manufacturers, one million active pilots, and over 50,000 daily flights.
