Bill Hwang is a New York-based investor who has been charged with massive stock market fraud. He has made a name for himself by working with Tiger Management’s Julian Roberston and through his hedge fund Archegos Capital Management.
He along with the former chief financial officer, Patrick Halligan was charged with securities fraud and racketeering charges on Wednesday.

He started his career by working at Hyundai Securities present in New York then started to work at Peregrine. While working at Peregrine, he found Julian Robertson as his client and later became a partner or worker in his business endeavors.
He worked with Julian in his Tiger Management and later opened the Tiger Asia Management company along with Bill. Bill had helped to make bring great success to Julian’s company.
After Tiger Asia Management got closed, Bill later opened a hedge fund called Archegos Capital Management, and it managed US$10 billion of family money.

In his schemes, he avoided publicly disclosing his positions to regulators and market participants by using swaps rather than buying stocks outright. Due to the fraudulence, Archegos’s portfolio went from $1.5 billion to $35 billion in one year.
But everything went downhill when Archegos collapsed in March causing more than $10 billion in losses to the bank and more than $100 billion in stock market value disappearing in just a few days.
